This Is Your #Brain on #Giving

DonateIt’s that time of year again! It’s the season for giving to others, whether it’s a platter of fresh baked cookies for your neighbor, a montage of pictures you took with your BFF, or a token of generosity to help a nonprofit organization move forward with its mission – giving impacts the brain in a wonderful way. What distinguishes us from other animals in the kingdom is that our mind and the behaviors we choose to display have a great influence on our health. Diet and exercise go a long way but there’s a reason the saying mind over matter has stuck throughout time. The term for people who gain from giving is called a ‘helpers high‘.  This high is from giving what you can afford to give: time, emotional support, food, unused items, or money. The benefit to the charity to which you donate is greatly appreciated but the benefits you receive transcend the value on a spreadsheet. How beneficial is lower blood pressure, higher self-esteem, less depression, lower stress levels for you? A longer a more satisfying life is not something you can pick-up at the local bodega. Give to Dip a Stick to help others avoid diabetes complications by detecting high sugar early. Help others. Enjoy the health benefits. Get a tax deduction doing it! That’s the ‘helpers high’ feeling you can get from giving this season.

The Dip a Stick Movement is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization campaign. It’s a needle-free way for people without diabetes to see high sugar early and reduce the risk of diabetes complications. Join the Dip a Stick Movement for free by subscribing here or by texting DIPASTICK to 22828 and respond with your email. You can also support us by shopping Amazon or donating on PayPal.
